Akagera National Park

About Akagera

This park is the only place in Rwanda where we can go looking for the "Big Five": the lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino, a nd buffalo. Beyond these incredible animals, we'll also see herds of zebras, giraffes, and various antelopes like topi and impalas. The park's lakes are teeming with life, so we're sure to spot large populations of hippos and crocodiles on our boat safari.

Game Drives

Game drives are a primary activity, allowing us to explore Akagera's diverse landscapes. We can embark on both day and night safaris, with the latter offering a unique chance to spot elusive nocturnal animals like leopards and serval cats.

Boat Safaris

Our boat safari on Lake Ihema offers a different perspective on the park's wildlife. It's a fantastic way to get up close with large concentrations of hippos and crocodiles and to observe animals drinking along the shores.

Bird Watching

With over 520 bird species, Akagera is a paradise for bird enthusiasts. I'll help you spot a variety of both resident and migratory birds, including the rare shoebill stork and colorful papyrus gonolek.

Nature Walks

We can also take guided nature walks to appreciate the park on foot. These walks provide a quiet opportunity to learn about the smaller details of the ecosystem, from local plants to animal tracks and signs.
